"Artfully Neglected"? "Painstakingly Partly-Restored"?
What is this? Is it an aesthetic? A feeling? A look?
Does it have a name?
"Industrial meets nature"? "Semi crumbling post factory era"? "Quasi pre-gentrified slightly gritty small town"?
Possibly-abandoned brick buildings and possibly-wild rivers, lovely walking paths with cracks, cement with flowers forcing their way through. A feeling of safety in potentially hazardous surroundings: rust, rushing water, emptiness. A feeling of potential in what might be a dead end.
I never really associated it with Connecticut. I thought it was a formerly important medium-sized city thing, a middle of nowhere plenty of space thing, a rust belt flyover region thing.
But...this is Putnam. Here it's just "quiet corner old mill town outdoorsy", or something. Whatever it is, I like it.
