And Did He Make Those Shoes?
I've never been inside the U.S. Capitol. (I guess on the list of why I'm a bad American, that goes somewhere below "hates sports" and "has never eaten a hot dog.") So I didn't know, until I found out unintentionally the other day, that Connecticut's contribution to the National Statuary Hall Collection is this rendering of Roger Sherman. I guess it's supposed to suggest some Roman orator, but I don't know. I think it looks more like the aftermath of an incident involving a bottle of New England rum, when Roger was forced to clothe himself in the table linens while waiting for the servants to clean and press his breeches.
